Cooperative length scales and glassy dynamics: experiments, theories,
and open questions.

Jean-Philippe Bouchaud

Abstract:
After reviewing some of the recent experiments that aim at discovering
a growing length scale that would explain the slowing down of glasses
and spin-glasses, we will give an account of some recent theoretical
ideas. The main issue is the compatibility between mean-field,
mode-coupling theories of the glass transition, where potential energy
landscape ideas are natural, and a real space description, in terms of
a growing cooperative length.
