The glass transition: established results, recent progress and open questions
Abstract
After a brief introduction to the phenomenology of the glass
transition I will discuss mean field theory approaches that predict
the existence of static and dynamic glass transitions. The
extension of these results to finite dimensional systems involves
both conceptual and technical challenges. I will explain the main
difficulties and some progress that has been made recently. Finally,
I would like to focus on the problem of dynamic correlation
length-scales close to the glass transition: in particular what are
the experimental issues, the theoretical predictions and the open
  challenges.
